Questions?

Thin layers bond stronger than one thick coat.

The first coat is light by design. Each layer bonds stronger than the last, building depth and texture until your print looks like real stone.

 Mixing & Application

Q: How do I mix SculptCoat™ powder?
A: Always add the SculptCoat™ powder into the water, not the other way around. This prevents clumping and allows for smoother mixing.

Q: How much SculptCoat should I use for an average 3D print?
A: We recommend starting with 1–2 tablespoons of powder per standard-sized 3D print (e.g., 4–6 inches tall). Adjust based on size and coverage.

Q: What should the consistency look like?
A: Aim for a smooth peanut butter consistency. This makes it brushable without dripping, and perfect for clinging to vertical or curved surfaces.

Q: Do I need to apply multiple layers?
A: . For best results, apply 3–4 thin layers, allowing each to semi-dry before applying the next. The first layer should be thin and semi-transparent—this helps create a strong bond to the surface. Each following layer can be built up slightly thicker, gradually covering until the surface has a uniform stone finish.

Q: How long does it take to set?
A: The mix will begin to harden within 15 minutes, so work quickly and only mix what you can use immediately.

Q: Can I sand it?
A: Yes — after applying, you can start sanding while its soft for smoother surfaces. For more layered or other use cases allow 24–48 hours to fully cure before sanding for detail refinement or edge cleanup.

SEALERS

What Sealers Can I Use with SculptCoat™?

SculptCoat is versatile and works with many sealers depending on your look and durability needs:

  • Acrylic Sealers – off-the-shelf options in matte, satin, or gloss for a clear protective coat.

  • Chalk Finish Sealers – our favorite for a natural, soft, stone-like appearance.

  • Siloxane / Silane Sealers – pro-grade, breathable concrete sealers that work particularly well for exterior projects exposed to weather.

👉 Pro Tip: Always test your chosen sealer on a small, less-visible part of the print before coating the entire piece. Every mix and print surface can react slightly differently.

Pigmented & Specialty Finishes

Q: How do I mix the pigmented versions?
A: Stir thoroughly! Pigmented powders require a full, even mix to avoid streaking. Consistency is key for smooth, even tone across layers.

Safety & Cleanup

Safety & Cleanup

Q: Can I pour leftover SculptCoat down the drain?
A: Never pour it down the drain. It will harden in pipes and cause blockages. Let it harden in a disposable container and throw it away.

Q: Do I need safety gear?
A: Yes — we recommend always using PPE:

  • Gloves to protect your hands
  • Dust mask or respirator when mixing dry powder
  • Eye protection to prevent irritation or injury

Q: Is it safe to touch with bare hands?
A: No — avoid skin contact during mixing and application. Some ingredients can dry out or irritate the skin.

Q: Is this safe to use indoors?
A: Yes, but ensure good ventilation during mixing and application. Once cured, it’s inert and safe for indoor use.

What NOT to Do with SculptCoat

  • DO NOT pour leftover mix down the drain
It will harden like cement and clog your plumbing. Let any excess harden in a disposable cup or tray, then toss it in the trash.
  • DO NOT mix water into the powder
Always add powder into water, slowly, to prevent clumps and ensure smooth mixing.
  • DO NOT apply with bare hands
The mixture can irritate skin. Always wear gloves while handling SculptCoat.
  • DO NOT let powder get in eyes or lungs
Use eye protection and a dust mask or respirator when handling dry pigment or powder.
  • DO NOT ingest or inhale this product
SculptCoat is not food-safe or breathable. Keep it away from pets and food prep areas.
  • DO NOT use on surfaces exposed to high heat or flames
It is not tested for heat resistance and should not be used in fireplaces or stoves unless otherwise noted.

 Not for Children

  • This is not a toy or child-safe art supply.
SculptCoat is a professional-grade material designed for artists, makers, and hobbyists aged 16 and up.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
Children should not mix, apply, or sand this product due to dust, chemical content, and required PPE.
  • Adult supervision is required
If used in an educational setting or home workshop, ensure strict adult guidance and safety gear are in place.
